Dine by the Blue Juniata

The title was inspired by the title of a song my grandfather once told me about, The Blue Juniata. I have never known the Juniata to look blue in all the years I have known her.

The fam took a break from duties to lunch at the Waterfront Tavern and we got one of the best river view seats in the place. They did not have many choices on the menu for vegetarians but seemed willing to change any menu item to suit. The salads and quesadilla we ordered we prepared well and tasted very good.

We had a quiet lunch and heard some stories about how a local, Sherman Kline, would dredge the river for sand for his cement factory just up river. As a boy, my dad remembers Sherman once coming around to their house and asked to hire him for the day. He was taught to plaster and was sent into a closet to apply what he had learned. He was the only one small enough to get the job done.
